Pinned topic MVFS and Compile errors

‏2005-04-22T15:52:13Z |
Hi,
We have a build server (XP) which is used for our nightly builds. For the past month or so we are seeing some weird errors while trying to compile on a dynamic view:
Here are some examples of these errors:

Compile:
Z:\frontend\spssgui\DataCtrl\VarListCtrl.cpp(28) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'DialogSubSys/dlgspkg.h': No such file or directory

These compile errors are usally accompanied by the following MVFS errors
2005/04/22 00:12:27.903 mvfs: Error: cleartext lookup view=builder1_spss_14000_frontend_grant vob=\frontend dbid=0x363c - error 12004
2005/04/22 00:12:27.953 mvfs: Error: cleartext pname= \Device\Mup\chiccsrv1\vobstore1\frontend.vbs\c\cdft\40\1c\628f0621440111cfa87c00aa004476e1

If I try to rebuild within the next minute the build succeeds.
If we reboot the VOB server then our build will goes on without any issues for a day or two. After that these problems resuraface. We have contacted IBM and they have asked to increase lock manager settings on the VOB server but this did not help. We see these errors only while compiling cpp projects. Snapshot is not a resolutin for us as we need to capture config records for each build.

Our build server and VOB server are on CC version 6.0 SR4.
Note: Our VOB server is a Windows 2003 server

Any Ideas?

Are opportunistic locks enabled in this environment? This has been known
to cause problems. The easiest way to disable them is to go to the server
and set the following Registry Value:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
    EnableOplocks REG_DWORD 0 or 1
    Default: 1 (Enabled by Default)

Note The EnableOplocks value configures Windows-based servers (including
Workstations sharing files) to allow or deny opportunistic locks on local
    files.

For more information on configuring opportunistic locking, please see this

    Hi,

I am working on a migration from Continuous to ClearCase 6.0. I have
numerous scripts that I have used in the past that were written in perl but
I can not find any documentation or manuals on migrating from Continuous to
ClearCae 6.0. I need to learn Continuous and it's inner or read up on the
commands so I can modify the scripts and get ready for the migration. Any
direction or input on where I can find documentation would be greatly
    appreciated.

    Many Thanks,

Are you running scrubber during nightly-build. If you do, suggest you run scrubber after or before nightly-build.
    Enjoy!

Is there a virus scanner running on the build server?

If so, kill it when you're building

    Hello,

I was wondering if you have found a solution to your problem? We experience this same issue periodically. I have checked the scrubber and anti-virus scan schedule and there are no conflicts with the build time. Additionally, we do not have an enable oplocks key in our registry.

    Regards,

    Randy,

Below you say " Additionally, we do not have an enable oplocks key in our registry."

The opportunistic locking is a funny thing. If the key is not present, I believe opportunisitc locking is actually on by default.

To turn off the opportunistic locking, you have to add the key and turn it off.

I am currently trying to help a customer with this issue as well. Last week we turned off the locking on the view server but that did not help.

We may try the VOB server as well. Unfortunately I don't have much guidance on this myself right now.
