Pinned topic Data Modeling Using UML

‏2004-12-20T15:20:14Z |
Typically there has been resistance from data modelers re using UML for classic data modeling activities. Is there a data Modeling Profile in UML 2.0 that allows me to use UML for data (logical/physical) modeling. I have seen some rev. eng. capability in soem UML tools but not a profile/transformation capability that allows me to transform a class diagram into a logical/physical model using IDEF/IE notations (like Erwin does). thanks.

I believe there is in Rational Data Modeler versions of their modeling products (Rose, XDE). I think you can also generate SQL from your model but it is not part of the generic modeling product.

If you visit http://www.agiledata.org/essays/umlDataModelingProfile.html I have a detailed profile posted. Feedback would be welcome.

Also, you might find several of the other essays posted at that sight to be of interest.
