Pinned topic OT: issues with /etc/shadow

‏2004-11-02T16:45:14Z |
I have a problem on one system that just started last week.
whenever I add a new user and set their password for the first time.

Normally you would see

smithj:Ep6mckrOLChF.:10063:0:99999:7:::

Now I am seeing

smithj:Ep6mckrOLChF.:10063:0:99999:7::10063:

Why is that 10063 showing up in another field (The number of days since January 1, 1970 that an account has been disabled)

    Forgot to mention that new accounts are expiring the same day. When I create the new account this is what I see when the user logs in the first time

    Last Change: Nov 02, 2004
    Password Expires: Jan 31, 2005
    Password Inactive: Never
    Account Expires: Nov 02, 2004

    found out what it was. /etc/default/useradd
    It was set to
    1. useradd defaults file
    GROUP=100
    HOME=/home
    INACTIVE=-1
    EXPIRE=186
    SHELL=/bin/bash
    SKEL=/etc/skel

    Not sure how expire=186 was placed in there though.

    Any ideas?
