It doesn't seem to be widely appreciated either inside or outside the braille transcribing community that much of the difficulty of braille transcribing has to do with text encoding. For example, some print italics are indicated in braille with an embedded markup character that is the braille equivalent of an "italics" tag, some are indicated in other ways, and some are not indicated at all.
I'm hoping some persons involved in tool development will become interested in customizing XML editors for braille transcribers.
