Pinned topic DB2 - Copying Database Files from AS/400 to Linux

‏2002-08-03T19:55:56Z |
Hi,

can you please send suggestions about the best way to copy database files from
an AS/400 (iSeries) DB2 to Linux.

I know that I can access from Linux the AS/400 database as a remote database,
but I am not sure what is the best way to actually duplicate some database
files (data + definitions).

Please send some suggestions.

Best Regards

There are utilities which will help you in copying the database from AS/400 to
Linux. I was able to locate UCRTFTPFIL, UFMAP01L, UCPYFTP utilities at
    http://www.datamission.co.uk/AS400_Utilities1.html website. Please, review and
let me know if you have further questions.

    Hi,

    thank you for your answer.

I know those utilities, but they are meant to be used just to import field
    separated files to Linux.

It would still be necessary to define the database files in Linux before
    importing the data.

I wonder if there is some more sophysticated tool within DB2 that could enable
the transfer of both the data and the field definitions.

It would be nice to access the remote database on the AS/400 (or other
machines) and duplicate the database table to the local DB2 on Linux.

    Best Regards

Hello Kaiser Saeed, I know this post is old, however, do you know where I could locate these utilities you mention below, UCRTFTPFIL, UFMAP01L, UCPYFTP. I am particularly interested in UCPYFTP and am unable to download it from the address you have below or from one I was able to link from @ http://books.datamission.co.uk/dwn_ftransfer1_confirm.html, it says the zip file is corrupt. I would really appreciate any help you can offer as I think this utility would work very well for what I need.

Maybe try again and if it doesn't work, contact the site owners. The site isn't an IBM site, so I don't have access to anyone in IBM who could fix it.

You may also find the IBM Redbook Moving Data Across the DB2 Family useful, although it is now several years old.
