Pinned topic Could not publish to the server. java.lang.NullPointerException

‏2013-05-01T12:16:30Z |

Hello,

I use WebSphere Developer Edition 7.0.0.25 and I get the following error message whenever it starts:

Could not publish to the server. java.lang.NullPointerException

I tried to check the logs but I wasn't able to find out what is the problem. It seems like something has changed within the configuration (I'm working on Eclipse Juno) but I don't know what.

These are the main options I've set:

- never publish automatically

- run server with resources on server (but it happens even when I run server with resources within the workspace, even if it was working better before now)

- automatically start applications after publishing

Does anyone have an idea?

Feel free to ask for specific log files. I wouldn't know what file to attach at the moment.

    Hello,

Regarding to "WebSphere Developer Edition 7.0.0.25", do you mean WebSphere Application Server 7.0.0.25?

    Thanks,

    Jason

Oh, yes, I'm sorry. I meant WebSphere Application Server 7.0.0.25 actually.

    Thanks for replying.

Have you tried to removed the application from the server and add it back?  What kind of application is it?  An EAR?  You mentioned that configuration was changed?  Do you have more details about it?  Was it working before?

    Thanks,

    Jason

When you get the null pointer exception, do you see a dialog come up? If you do, there's a "Details" button, which may have useful information.

In the "Error logs" view, do you see any stack traces there?

    Thanks

Yes,  I always do that. Every time I have this kind of problem I always remove and then add the application. I even restart the server. The application is an EAR and I don't know what is changed within the configuration, I mentioned it is like if it was changed. But I didn't change anything indeed.

Of course, it was working before.

Yes, there is a dialog coming up, and the information I've reported comes directly from that. And no more information is present. For that reason I've even tried to see the logs, but I wasn't able to find something meaningful so far.

So far I didn't see any stack trace in the Error logs view.

Thanks a lot for your support.

When you say it was working before, what were you using previously to cause your application to be published successfully? (e.g. which IDE and which WAS)

Also, does this problem occur in general for other projects? Say, if you create a web project with a servlet, add it to an EAR, and publish to the server, do you also see the NullPointerException?

    Thanks

I was actually using the same IDE (Eclipse Juno) and the same WAS 7.0.0.25 when it was working.

The problem occurs for every project I try to deploy, but in any case, I performed some other tests during the last two days and it did not happen. :(

    It looks like something randomic.
