‏2014-03-09T15:44:10Z |

Getting an error (see message below) while trying to install  installation manager (for developers), i have not made any changes  to the software i downloaded from ibm site (why does this not work)? I want to eventually install WAS8.5.

After errors are displayed, once i click on the ok button the installer application closes.

install.config has the foll=>

    things started working... without any changes on my side... maybe there was some maintainence going on the repository server... wish we could get a better warning.. sure wasted a lot of time with this.

    Now Installation manager is installed and i added the foll repository http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V8.5WASDeveloperILAN

     i tested the connection and it shows connected.

    However the install button is greyed and i cannot proceed..... so i can't select WAS8.5 and install it.... (any suggestions)

    Between the time it wasnt working to when it strted working i made no changes..... so proxy shouldn't be an issue. I think something was going on server side yesterday. Its working now though.

    This still seems to be a problem with me. Don't really understand what the install is expecting. I was expecting the downloaded zip to contain everything required to install.

    I am running the install.exe in the unpacked zip. I expected this to just run and download and install whatever packages it required?

    My install.xml contained the following for repositories:

    <server>
      <repository location='.'/>
      <repository location='http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85WASBASETrialL'/>
    </server>

    And I get the error as described by the OP. I've tried this several times, both 32bit and 64 bit. I've also tried using the main Installation Manager, but there are no packages found. It is not at all intuitive how to use these installation managers. It should guide you through all the steps, but it seems so convoluted just to install some trial software!

    You should try to download the latest Installation Manager (v1.8.1) and install it. The version that is currently available through the WebSphere Trials download pages is an earlier version.

    To get the latest Installation Manager go to the installation Manager download page:  http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27025142

    Download the latest version and run the installer. If you already installed Installation Manager, you do not have to uninstall it. The new Install Manager installer will detect the existing copy and update it. That way you will not loose any repository locations or other preference settings that you have established.

    If need be, you might have to manually add the location to the trial repository to the repository preferences.

    Due to POODLE exploit, IBM has shut off SSL v3 authentication for the IBM-hosted trials repositories. Earlier versions of Installation Manager use SSL v3, so they will fail to connect. The latest version of Installation Manager does not use SSL v3 for authentication, so it should be able to connect successfully.

    Hello!

    I have the same problem of @casta_oh I just try to install the WAS for Developers many times but I can't and appears the next error:

    No se puede encontrar el paquete com.ibm.websphere.liberty.IBMJAVA.v70 especificado en el archivo C:\Users\XxxxXX\Desktop\was8.5\install.xml.

    I try to install with the IBM Installation Manager adding the repository but before to show the packages of the Installation the IM asks for the IM 1.8.1 but I don't have that IM because I don't found the Installer in the webpage of the IM because only exists the IM 1.8.2 that is the IM of I have.

    Yes, we were able to identify the issue and get it corrected.  Installation Manager 1.8.0 or higher will work to install any of the WAS Trial editions (Express, Developers, Base, and Network Deployment). All repository servers are running and available.

    Regards

    I tried installing WebSphere Application Server for Developers  using the customized Installation Manager link referenced above by casta_oh and did not have any problem. I also went to another machine and tried the installation by manually adding the repository location to the preferences of Installation Manager that was already installed on the machine.  So, this tells me that the IBM hosted repositories are running and available for installations. Therefore, there might be a problem somewhere else in the installation process.

    So, let us start fresh here and I will walk through the entire process so that all the available options are presented and you can determine which of the installation methods works best for your situation.

    To begin, you can start at the WebSphere Application Server for Developers product page, located here:
       http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/ws/wasdevelopers/

    When you click on the Download button, there are two options provided.

    The first option is to use Installation Manager to install the product from an IBM hosted repository. When you follow this path, you are taken to a webpage where you can download an IBM Installation Manager installer that is customized with the IBM hosted repository location for WebSphere Application Server for Developers:
      https://www.ibm.com/services/forms/preLogin.do?source=swerpws-wasdevim85&S_PKG=500023135&S_CMP=web_dw_rt_swd

    This customized Installation Manager installer can be used whether or not you already have Installation Manager installed on your machine. If Installation Manager is not installed already, it will install itself and WebSphere Application Server for Developers. If Installation Manager is already installed but at a version lower than 1.8.0, then it will update Installation Manager. Then, after restarting Installation Manager you can proceed with the installation of WebSphere Application Server for Developers. If Installation Manager is already at version 1.8.0 or higher, then it will load the IBM hosted repository location from where WebSphere Application Server for Developers can be installed.

    Alternatively, if you are sure Installation Manager v1.8.0 or higher is installed already, then you can simply add the IBM hosted repository location to the preference yourself.  The repository location for WebSphere Application Server for Developers version 8.5.x.x is:
       http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/V85WASDeveloperILAN/repository.config

    Notice that this repository location ends with the filename repository.config. Typically, it is not necessary to include this filename because that is what Installation Manager looks for be default. But, it does not hurt to explicitly include it in the repository location.

    Whether you use the customized Installation Manager installer to inject the repository location or add it manually, you will also have to login to the repository server with your IBM.com credentials. These are the same user name and password used to sign in to this forum or download other IBM products. If authentication fails, then a connection will not be made and nothing from repository can be installed.

    The second option is to download an Installation Manager installer and a set of compressed (zip archives) repositories containing WebSphere Application Server for Developers to your local machine. Then decompress the archive files to a central location (on your machine or on your network). And lastly, run Installation Manager and add the local repository locations to the preference.

    This option can be good if you are installing the product on multiple machines, or are having problems installing from the IBM hosted repositories. The downside of this option is that the repositories are rather large (WAS for Dev has 3 parts to download that are each about 1 GB = 3 GB total) because they contain all the code necessary to install WebSphere Application Server for Developers and an IBM Java SDK for WebSphere for all supported platforms. That means, after setting up a local repository, the product can be installed on Linux, Windows, AIX, HP-US, or Solaris.

    If you prefer this option, you can get to the webpage to download Installation Manager and the compressed archives for WebSphere Application Server for Developers repository and other supplemental packages here:
      https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/preLogin.do?source=swerpws-wasdevdl85&S_CMP=web_dw_rt_swd

    If you are installing from a local repository, Installation Manager version 1.6.2 or higher can be used. However, it is always best to use the latest version available. To get the latest Installation Manager go to the installation Manager download page here:  http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27025142

    Hello Scott Johnston!

    I got the procedure but I still having this problem. The repository is not available to donwload on internet. If you try to access the link directly you will get a error.

    For work around, I downloaded WebSphere Application Developers package. For the first moment it seems that work, but in the middle of installation it complained for a packages (as on image). So there some problem in the package as well. Have you ever seen this errors before?

    Regards

    What version of Installation Manager are you using.  Installation Manager must be at version 1.8.0 or higher to access the repositories.

    Also, when Installation Manager connects to the repository, you have to provide your IBM.com ID credentials.  If Installation Manager cannot authenticated with the repository server, then it cannot access the files.

    Other issues might be firewall or other networking configurations problems.
