Pinned topic Free encrypted space on 9002 Datapower device

‏2013-06-28T20:33:19Z |

Hello,

I have task of upgrading the firmware for a 9002 device from 3.6.1.10 (I am informed, that this is out of support )

The upgrade failed due to firmware upgrade failed : Insufficient flash storage space, this is a known problem. I tried all the prescribed methods to no avail.

Surprisingly my efforts to "reinit" the device ended up with the same error - Reflash failed: Insufficient flash space.

Currently trying to clear the store:///   temp:///   local:///   folders to make space. The process is very laborious as I can only get in through CLI;  web-gui won't let me in (tried all prescribed methods on this as well)

Anyone has any tricks to free the encrypted space quickly to facilitate the upgrade.

Thanks in Advance

Sam

    Hello,

you are having a REALLY old box, support for 9002 appliances ended in 2009:
    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21330187

Another problem you have is, that DataPower 3.7.3 firmware is the last that can be installed in 9002 hardware.
And again, support for 3.7.3 firmware ended in 2011:
    http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21246298

The only chance you might have is asking DataPower support on whether they will give you latest 3.7.3 firmware image.

We do have some 9002s left in Boeblingen lab, and two are still running, see here:

    $ ssh margarita
    9.152.93.143
    Unauthorized access prohibited.

    Hi Hermann,

Thanks for the reply but it did not answer my question. do you know of any methods to free up the encrypted space...

    local, store, pubcert, are empty

I was able to free up 10 MB to 63.4 MB. I have the firmware image, trying to install 3.7.3.0 (~27MB)

Still get the error for Insufficient flash space for both reinit and firmware upgrade.

Any force reinit method is also acceptable

    appreciate any inputs on this..

I had free encrypted space of 61MB on margarita.

Then I did "co; fl; boot delete" in order to Delete the previous firmware install.

Afterwards I had 128MB of free encrypted space.

Then I did boot "xi3730.9002.mq6.scrypt2" image (35MB -- your 27MB seems to indicate that you do have a XS40 box).

    Before:

    xi50# show filesystem

     Free Encrypted Space: 61 Mbytes
    Total Encrypted Space: 233 Mbytes
     Free Temporary Space: 221 Mbytes
    Total Temporary Space: 242 Mbytes
      Free Internal Space: 242 Mbytes
     Total Internal Space: 242 Mbytes

    xi50#

    After booting new 373 firmware:

    $ ssh margarita
    9.152.93.143
    Unauthorized access prohibited.
    login: admin
    Password: *********

    xi50# show filesystem

    Total Temporary Space: 242 Mbytes
      Free Internal Space: 240 Mbytes
     Total Internal Space: 242 Mbytes

    xi50#

I hope this will allow you to upgrade to 3.7.3.0 -- latest firmware is 3.7.3.19.

I really appreciate your help Hermann.

Followed as adviced- Worked perfectly, It did not work for the upgrade (same error) but, it worked for the reinit.

I reinit the device and it is running perfectly now.
