Pinned topic The real cache size of V7000 for data usage

Hi All,

The V7000 16GB cache contains system and data parts. How many real spaces can serve data part only?

    There is 8 GB memory in each controller.

    This is used like this:

    Firmware xxx mb. (Depends on firmware version etc.)

    Compression: 2 GB - If activated.

    Cache: the rest. That means somewhere between 5 and 6 GB Cache.

    Note that Cache is mirrored between the controllers - so the 16 GB is a marketing number only.

    I don't think I've ever seen official numbers published for this, and the number will vary between different software versions, hardware options, FlashCopy and Metro/Global mirror config etc,  but from observation it's fair to say by far the majority of memory is for cache data.

    Note that only the write data is mirrored between the controllers.  Read data is not mirrored, so it's not purely a marketing thing to consider the sum of the cache memory in the control enclosure.   [but I personally do agree the spirit of the "16GB" number is a marketing headline thing ;-) ]
