Pinned topic Resetting the Appliance after a bad network config

‏2012-08-29T13:26:46Z |
I was testing the appliance on a different Laptop with VMWare Workstation - I made some errors with it but because they were errors with the networking I could never login to try and correct!

Is there a command to either reset the appliance so I can re-do the setup correctly?
Is there a console command to enter a different Network config to a running appliance that you can only get to on the console?
I could find neither of these documented in the InfoCenter.

Of course I simply re-imported the OVA into a new VM but there may be real scenarios where an Administrator can no longer hit their admin screen with a browser.

     Hi Rob,

You can run the setup wizard again by entering the following on the command line in the console view of the appliance...

    >   wizard startup.xml

You can also reset just the networking portion by entering the following command ...

    >   netif set eth0 IPAddress=<ip address of the appliance>/<netmask> DefaultGateway=<gateway ip address>

    e.g.  netif set eth0 IPAddress=192.168.119.132/24 DefaultGateway=192.168.119.2

I have exactly that situation. I try to put in the correct network configuration via wizard or command. Nothing works as expected. I always get "Error pürocessing network configuration information".

I'm on version 1.1 without fix.

    Thanks for any advice!

Finally I got it running. The reason was a mis-typed netmask. The admin panel checks that IP address with netmask is corresponding to the default gateway IP address.
