Pinned topic lpar2rrd - nmon agent

‏2014-07-07T07:59:33Z |

Hello,

Maybe here someone will be able help me.

I installed lpar2rrd and I wanted also configure nmon agent, but looks not working or at least results are not displayed on www.
- on lpar2rrd server lpar2rrd-daemon.pl is running,
- connection from client to server is working (port is not blocked)
- nmon logs are sent to server because i can see them in: /home/lpar2rrd/lpar2rrd/data/__FRAME__/__HMC__/__LPAR__--NMON--/
But still i cannot see results on page

Did i forget enable this option somewhere ?

There is nothing else to configure. Data is obviously being collected, but the menu does not reflect it.

If that does not appear after a while (it should appear in the menu after the next  HMC data load, 1h typically) then feel free to contact us via support email.

    Cheers, Pavel

looks i found a found solution

I only used "lpar2rrd-agent.pl -n" to send nmons to lpar2rrrd server and looks we need also "lpar2rrd-agent.pl __LPAR2RRD__" script to collect os agents.

@Pavel it's possible use only nmons without os agent function?

yes, you can use only NMON  (NMON is independent on the OS agent, both just use the same script/program).

In fact you have 3 independent options:

    1. NMON only

      /usr/bin/perl /opt/lpar2rrd-agent/lpar2rrd-agent.pl -n __NMON_DIR__  __LPAR2RRD-SERVER__

    2. OS agent only

      /usr/bin/perl /opt/lpar2rrd-agent/lpar2rrd-agent.pl __LPAR2RRD-SERVER__

    3. both

      /usr/bin/perl /opt/lpar2rrd-agent/lpar2rrd-agent.pl -n __NMON_DIR__  __LPAR2RRD-SERVER__

      /usr/bin/perl /opt/lpar2rrd-agent/lpar2rrd-agent.pl __LPAR2RRD-SERVER__

    but when I configured

    1. NMON only

      /usr/bin/perl /opt/lpar2rrd-agent/lpar2rrd-agent.pl -n __NMON_DIR__  __LPAR2RRD-SERVER__

results was not displayed on page, when I activated also OS agent results showed on page.

ok, see it. It is a bug which was spotted and fixed just this week.

Get the quick fix from here: http://www.lpar2rrd.com/download/install-html.sh.gz

gunzip it and copy into /home/lpar2rrd/lpar2rrd/bin (755, lpar2rrd owner)

then under lpar2rrd user in /home/lpar2rrd/lpar2rrd:

    ./load.sh html

    Refresh the browser ...

    Cheers, Pavel

    I ran '/usr/bin/perl /opt/lpar2rrd-agent/lpar2rrd-agent.pl -n nmondir lpar2rrd_server_name'

It seems to be sending the files to the lpar2rrd server, however it does not load the nmon data into the rrd databases - san-fcs0.mmm, pgs.mmm, ....don't contain data (all points show NaNQ)

Also the *.cfg files just have 'nmonip' as its content.

Am I missing anything in the process ?

Thanks in advance for your help !!

    Hi,

as I just wrote in an another case, contact us via official lpar2rrd support.

It looks strange, it might be a bug as per you description, but we need some more details and data ... and I do not want to bother people here by our long conversation.

The best start point would be sending us the nmon file via http://www.lpar2rrd.com/upload.html .

    Cheers, Pavel

Hmm, my nmon file collected with 'nmon -xAPVdM'  does not work.. It worked with the nmon file collected with 'nmon -f -t -D -E -s60 -c1440'

ok, the problem is default 15 minutes sample rate in "nmon -xAPVdM"

LPAR2RRD accepts 1 - 10 minutes sample rates only. Next version (4.54+)will support even 15 minutes (default), but not more.

    Cheers, Pavel

Pavel, lpar2rrd 4.60 just released. Does it support default 15 minutes sample rate ?

yes, v4.60 supports it for newly created nmon db files (hosts)

if you have already tried that for any host then delete nmon db files

    rm data/<server>/*/<lpar>--NMON/*mmm

Files could be adjusted by "rrdtool tune" instead of removing of them but it is more complicated :)

    Cheers, Pavel

ok, can you try it here: http://nmon.lpar2rrd.com (here is running latest v4.60 agent)

When it fails even there then send us that nmon source file https://www.lpar2rrd.com/upload.html
