Pinned topic RAID Level Migration

‏2013-09-05T22:09:08Z |

I'm testing the ability to migrate RAID levels and wonder if I am just misunderstanding this whole thing.

I have a test server which I configured 4 physical drives into 1 virtual drive at RAID0. I thought I would be able to change the RAID level of that drive group, but I dont have an option to do so. I'm thinking of this as converting from RAID0 to another RAID level, but maybe I am wrong,

I'm using MegaRaid Storage Manager 12.10.01.02 on a x3650m4 with 5110 adapter.

Thanks

Troy

I figured out what the issue was with this. I had used all of my drives and therefore nothing to migrate to. I reconfigured and left one drive unassigned then was able to migrate the RAID level utilizing the extra drive.

I have only done RAID migration when adding new hard disk. Such as 2x disk RAID0 migrate to RAID5 by adding 1x new disk.

I can't imagine RAID card will let you change RAID0 to example RAID1. How would the RAID card know about the partitions, which to preserve, because it has to destroy half of the data for parity space.

    Regards.
