Pinned topic How to install lmgrd as a service in 8.1.4 (RedHat)

‏2013-12-05T16:37:09Z |

Hi,

In older versions of the License server that were installed via scripting there were convenience scripts to start lmgrd as a service on unix/linux.

I installed the Rational License Key Server 8.1.4 on RedHat Linux 6.1 64bits.

lmgrd starts fine manually and I can stop it with lmdown also manually.

Where can I find the scripts to place in \etc\init.d and related, so that lmgrd will start automatically at reboot?

Thank you and regards, Lara

    Hello Lara,

Rational License Key Server( RLKS) 8.1.3 onwards are coded differently than the older versions.

Script for starting lmgrd, start_lmgrd, is present under <rlks install directory>\config . Also, this script references other files located in the same directory.

On my RHEL 6.1 server, RLKS 8.1.4 is installed under /opt/IBM/RationalRLKS . Perform the following steps, to make lmgrd to start automatically after reboot.

    1) Under /etc/rc.d/init.d, create a rlks_start script and include the following commands

          cd /opt/IBM/RationalRLKS

          ./start_lmgrd

    2)  Provide execute permissions to everyone on this rlks_start script.

    chmod 755 rlks_start

    3) Create symbolic links to rlks_start script in all the run-levels.

    ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/rlks_start /etc/rc.d/rc2.d/S98Rlks

    ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/rlks_start /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S98Rlks

    ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/rlks_start /etc/rc.d/rc4.d/S98Rlks

    ln -s /etc/rc.d/init.d/rlks_start /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S98Rlks

Confirm if the steps help achieve the desired results.

I took the ideas from above and did the following to make RLKS autostart in ubuntu 14.04.

    Edit /etc/rc.local:

    # Start lmgrd
    cd /opt/IBM/RationalRLKS/config
    ./start_lmgrd
