Pinned topic Ethernet management ports configuration of IBM DS3512

‏2013-09-13T21:20:50Z |

Hi Experts,

I'm trying to instruct the remote site engineer to get my DS 3512 configured with static IP.

we don't even have a management machine to accomplish this, is  there a way to configure the Ethernet Management Ports with the help of a laptop which we can utilize as a management system for initial setup.

The DS 3512 storage is in the default IP of 192 series in both controllers. We want to assign the Ip to the management ports in our subnet in 172 series.

Can u advice us the possible steps for this.

Please advice ..

Thanks in Advance

Install DS Storage Manager on a laptop.

Give the laptop a static IP adress in similar to the default ip of the DS3512 controllers (192.168.128.xx)

Use the DS Storage manager to configure new IP adresses on the DS3512 to suit your 172 subnet.

Change your laptop's ip adress back to a 172- subnet ip.

    Voila!

Thanks Ander...But I am following the same thing but it's not getting configured. The IBM DS3512 storage box is in the default ip address of 192 series. We want to configure this storage box from remote distance place in our subnet of 172 series. The Port A and Port B of Controller A and Controller B are connected to the network switch via cable. We tried to connect our laptop physically to the Port B of Controller A via RJ45 cable. To get our laptop communicate with storage box,the IP address of laptop was brought to the subnet of 192 series of storage box.We had installed the DS storage manager in the laptop and tried to give the ip of 172 series in the port A of Controller A.After configuring this and clicking Ok...still the 172 series ip was not getting accepted by the storage box.So Need to know by following this as above, whether we need to configure all the 4 ports of both the controllers or just nly port B of both the controllers as Port A of both are connected to the network switch

You need to configure Port 1 on Controller A and B, OR Port 2 on Controller A and B.

Connect the laptop to the switch as well as Ctrl A and B when you do it, so the laptop have access to both controllers during the IP change - it makes it alot easier.
