Pinned topic Can I use LTO 4 Tape on TS3100?

‏2013-06-17T14:49:45Z |

Hi All,

I have an IBM System Storage TS3100 M/T: 3573 L2U. In Windows 2003 Device Manager is shown as - Medium Changers: IBM Total Storage 3573 Tape Library / - Tape Drives: IBM ULT3580-HH3 SCSI Sequential Device.

Additional Data.

Library Identity
Serial Number 78H3832
Product ID 3573-TL
Currently Installed Library Firmware 9.20 / 3.00e
Bootcode Firmware Revision 0.60
Barcode Reader CSE600

I´m trying to use some LTO4 IBM Cartridge with Symantec Backup Exec but I´m having Issues. Do anyone Know if LTO4 Cartridge is fully compatible with System Storage? or if I have to do any firmware upgrade?

Thank´s in advance!

    Dear  Gustavo,

yes, LTO4 Cartridge is fully compatible with System Storage in case you have LTO4 drive inside. But in your TS3100 is IBM Ultrium 3 Tape Drive ULT3580-HH3 inside. It means you need LTO3 Cartridges.

    Thank´s for the reply Alexander!

You are right. Specifically my problem is my drive that only accepts LTO3 Cartridge. By the way, I take the opportunity to consult you. Do you know if I can change my internal Tape Drive for another one compatible with LTO4 cartridge?

    Regards,

    Gustavo.

    Hi  Gustavo,

yes, you can change LTO3 drive to LTO4. Needed options available on the next page:

Tables "IBM System Storage TS3100 Tape Library Express Model"
