Pinned topic Is there a way to compare the whole settings of two Work spaces ?

‏2013-05-09T04:08:28Z |

Dear All,

I have two work spaces , out of which one work space settings are correct and it is working fine, but  the other one is not working ,

So i want to compare the settings of both work spaces ,

Instead of checking it manually by looking at each options and settings , Is there any shortcut way to compare the whole  settings between two different Work spaces ?

If yes please guide me how to do it ,

I am using IBM Rational® Business Developer  Version: 7.5.1.8

Thanks

Magesh

    Hi Magesh,

I not sure if you want to compare the preference setting or *.eglbld & *.egldd.

If you want to compare preference setting, you can compare two workspaces' preference files in

"#Your workspace#\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime\.settings" which contains "etools" ,"edt" or "egl"  word by comparing tool(like beyond compare etc).

If you want to compare *.eglbld or *egldd  setting, You can use comparing tool to do it also.

    Thanks

    Dear Xiaobin,

    Thanks for the reply ,

Yes i want to compare the preferences settings only i have followed as per your suggestion ,

As you stated I could see lot of folders under the " \.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime\.settings" , also did the compare with the tool beyond compare.

But i am unable to  figure out which options exactly different in  the settings between workspaces,

I have attached the files for your reference ,

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards

    Hi Magesh,

You can compare the content of com.ibm.etools.edt.core.ide.prefs,com.ibm.etools.egl.prefs,com.ibm.etools.egl.sql.prefs,com.ibm.etools.egl.tui.prefs  etc, which files contains egl or edt.

If some files exist in one workspace, but not exist in the other one, It means the other use the default value.

If you do not know the exactly "key" means in the prefs file(you can open it with notepad), you can attatch the "works" and "not works" preference setting into this thread.(all of the *.prefs file in two .settings folders)

    Thanks
