This article has just came to my attention. CPU x VRD fault with C-States enabled - IBM System x and BladeCenter
It would seems IBM made a poor component choice for the VRD and trying to avoid a massive recall.
Quoted from the article,
"1. IBM Servers are designed to perform optimally in a steady state power environment. Excessive AC and DC power cycles can stress system components which may lead to pre-mature failure of the VRDs."
I have seen servers power on/off every day, controlled by VMware DPM. Does this means servers will fail sooner because of such excellent VMware power saving technology ?
