Pinned topic PowerLinux in an AIX LDAPR environment

‏2012-06-07T19:46:06Z |
I'll be helping a customer out with integrating some PowerLinux clients into an AIX LDAP environment. Is there anything different that I need to know about with regard to the LDAP set up?

Thanks!

Is Linux the LDAP server or a client?

Linux will be the client. The LDAP server is on AIX.

I'm asking because LDAP on Linux is typically OpenLDAP, whereas AIX has it's own native LDAP servers and clients (IBM Directory Server add-on for AIX).  I'm just wondering if a certain configuration is required or if there are any other gotchas when integrating some Linux clients using AIX servers (like does SSL work ok,etc)

Well, I can't say I have much personal experience, but there is a Redbook from 2003, AIX and Linux Interoperability which has a whole section on LDAP setup, including Linux clients.

There is also a developerWorks library article from 2008 on Extending non-IBM LDAP servers to support full AIX functionality.  It does not specifically address Linux, but may provide some insight into any idiosyncrasies.

Let us know how it goes.
