Pinned topic Where to get latest postgresql and postgis

‏2013-05-27T09:04:30Z |

I have a customer using postgresql and postgis on linux.

He has an underutiized Power system and we want to try to install

VIOS on the system and use a partition for postgresql and postgis.

Can someone tell us where we could find binaries for postgresql/postgis for Red Hat on Power or AIX ?

or

Do you know someone out there that has experience in compiling postgresql/postgis ?

Can I follow somehow or get notified when they have added postgreql and postgis ?

postgresql92 has been built. You could add following repository: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/server:/database:/postgresql/SLE_11_SP2/

postgis2 needs few dependencies to be resolved, but you could use postgis 1.5 from the following repo:  http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Application:/Geo/SLE_11_SP2/

ok, I can see postgis 1.5,  so I will then have wait and to check for postgis2 to be available in the ppc64 folder at this location ?

    http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Application:/Geo/SLE_11_SP2/

Yes, my submit request for libgdal was accepted (fixes SLES builds). So postgis2 should be available anytime soon within the same repo.

Is there a particular version of postgresql that you are looking for?

Did you already try this on RedHat?   or just looking to see if it's available?

On RHEL 6.3 (with a local server in the lab)..  I have this installed..

    postgresql-server-8.4.13.-1.el6_3.ppc64

I am not finding postgis...  still poking around..

The customer requires version 9.2 I believe.  He then is using GIS so he needs postgis as well.

They are not ready to compile and test by themselves, not having any kind of support, at least for this

    particular application.

SLES11SP2 have 9.1 available from its channels.

Also there is OBS (Open Build Service) where you could build applications from the single source for many distributions.  Looking at its sever:database:postgresql project shows that it builds 9.2 now. But there is no Power architecture enabled. I'll ask them to enable it.

What does this mean with regards to availability of the packages ?

What would we need to install to get this running on an LPAR on Power ?

Once maintainer will add ppc64 architecture. You'd be able to add repository and install packages.
