Pinned topic Setting up LPM and Question on Zoning

‏2014-01-02T16:12:12Z |

I gave the SAN Admin the primary and secondary clients Virtual Adapter WWPn's

he zoned both WWPNs to the LUNS assigned but I am getting HSCLA319 errors when doing a LPM Validation

Does the SAN Admin need to do something else for the LPM to work?

Thanks

    AFAIK, nope.

Generally, the 2nd WWPN must be manually added for every VFC adapter by your SAN Admin folks..... in the correct SAN Fabic (assuming you have 2 san fabrics) plus the Storage System.   So it's quite common that the 2nd WWPN was:

    • totally missed
    • added in the wrong Fabric, (e.g added in Fabric B but should be in Fabric A)
    • added but with a typo in the WWPN
    • missed from the Storage System (or a typo)

Sounds like you need to work with them to sort out what (if any) might apply.

    Hi,

    My advices :

1/ From the hardware management console, use the chnportlogin command to login on logout ports. The man pages says it will log second WWPN used for Live Partition Mobility Operation : "When  performing  a  login  operation,  all  inactive WWPNs will be activated, including the second WWPN in the pair assigned to each virtual Fibre Channel client adapter.  When performing a logout operation, all WWPNs not in use will be deactivated." By using it this command verify your with you SAN team that port a logged.
2/ From any Virtual I/O Server of the same fabric you can verifiy masking and zoning is ok on second WWPN (check scsi id are matching and if there are any lun missing), there is a post on my blog about this :
    http://chmod666.org/index.php/live-partition-mobility-diagnostic-and-debugging/

Here is an exemple below (c0507604f208016b is my LPM WWPN):

Great information but still having issues.  San Team said they are zoning the LUNs to both WWPN's. When I run devscan I only get the SCSI ID from the storage array not for any of the LUNS

When I contacted IBM they told me Zoning issue.  I will be following your doc and sending them a snap with the hope they find something

    Thanks

The problem ended up being a bug in version 2.2.3.1 and once I installed the emgr patch from IBM , LPM is working great

Do you happen to know the emgr number?  There is only one emgr out there for 2.2.3.1 (VIOS 2.2.3.1-IV52899m1a) and it doesn't say anything about fixing issues with LPM.  Thanks!

Below is what IBM emailed me stating the 2 known issues. The EMGR fix that fixed my issue is IV53505

There are 2 known issues impacting LPM with NPIV, both related to
        2.2.3.1

        1. Migration FROM 2.2.3.1 (source) VIOS to an older version fails with
        HSCLA319 and RC 88.
        This requires IV43735.

IV43735: ERROR MIGRATING LPAR WITH NPIV

        http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg1IV43735

This APAR is available at 2.2.2.3

        2. Migration from 2.2.3.1 or an older version of VIOS TO (target)
        2.2.3.1 fails with HSCLA28D HSCLA356 HSCLA29A HSCLA319.
        This is fixed with IV53505.

Hmmm - I still can't find that specific fix IV53505.  Can anyone help me locate it?  Thanks.
