After a prolonged power outage overnight 2 servers failed to automatically restart. BIOS is set to always power up after power failure, but this didn't work.
Wake on LAN not functioning after improper shutdown - IBM System xSymptomThe system on-board Ethernet, based on the Intel 82575 Ethernet controller chipset, in the listed server system models, will not Wake On LAN (WOL) following an improper system shutdown.SolutionNone. This is a permanent limitation.
So the IBM 2200VA gracefully shits down the server, and that counts as an improper shutdown from which the server cannot wake up. Brilliant!
Surely there is a fix for this in a BIOS update. IBM, help?????
