Pinned topic GPFS installation failing

‏2013-09-25T12:47:24Z |

Hi,

We are trying install BigInsights with GPFS file system, installation is failing on the time of GPFS installation.

We are trying with two nodes for GPFS, as per the installation drive /dev/sda4 has not mounted and this mount has been pointed for GPFS installation.

The error log is,

Disk name    NSD volume ID      Device         Node name                Remarks

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 gpfs1nsd     0AE2E0175242BC05   /dev/sda4      bigone                   server node

 gpfs2nsd     0AE2E01C5242BC0B   /dev/sda4      bigtwo                   server node

+ checkSuccess 472 '-  execute mmlsnsd'

+ '[' 0 '!=' 0 ']'

+ set -x

+ for i in '${MC_LIST}' '${CLIENT_LIST}'

+ sudo ssh bigone 'mkdir -p /dev/sda4'

mkdir: cannot create directory `/dev/sda4': File exists

+ checkSuccess 477 '-  create GPFS mount point directory on bigone'

+ '[' 1 '!=' 0 ']'

+ set +x

Error encountered at line 477 while attempting to:

- create GPFS mount point directory on bigone

Exiting.

[FATAL] Failed to setup a GPFS file system

[FATAL] Failed to install GPFS

    So I don't know about the BigInsights installation script, but it shouldn't be making a directory in the /dev/ directory.

    "/dev/sda4" refers to the local disk device on each node.

    The default GPFS mount point directory is /gpfs.

    Perhaps its a bug in the script or an incorrect parameter passed to the script?

    The "device" is distinct from the "mount point".

    /dev/sda4 is the device.

    The mount point is a path where the GPFS file system will be mounted once created. For this, you should specify a path e.g. /bigpfs, that should be a new directory or an empty.directory.

    The error is encountered because the device itself was specified as the mount point.

    Thank you both for your quick responses, I was able to proceed with the installation with the suggestions given by both of you.
    But I've again struck with the error log

    From this command output:

    mmaddcallback: Thu Sep 26 11:59:28 IST 2013: Processing line start-snmp-daemon --command /var/mmfs/etc/gpfs-callback_start_snmp.sh --event startup -N cluster

    The command is trying to specify a node name or node class of "cluster".  This is not a legitimate GPFS node class and it seems like an unlikely node name - have you specified "cluster" as an input to a Big Insights command somewhere?

    The legitimate GPFS node classes are all, clientnodes, localhost, managernodes, mount, nonquorumnodes, nsdnodes, and quorumnodes.  From your original post, it looks like your nodenames are bigone and bigtwo.

    Thank you for your response.
    yes node names are bigone and bigtwo and I no where mentioned "cluster" on the time of installation. Please find the attached log.
