Pinned topic XI52 virtual edition: reboot failed after firmware upgrade

‏2013-05-17T17:33:26Z |

Hello,

I did not create any domain and tried to upgrade the firmware to 5.0.0.6 (xi5006.tam61.scrypt4) right after the 5.0.0.0 was installed and configured.

After the firmware is upgraded, I also ran the following before system reboot:

config
flash
boot delete

However, the reboot failed with error "Failed to find the encrypted flash ...".

The information from the URL below really can not tell much since I don't see files inside those local etc folders.

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27015333

What could  I do to make the firmware upgrade succeed?

Thanks and regards

Frank

I believe you've run into the same issue I dd when I first started working with virtual appliances.  I am glad to see you are not far along with your XI-52 configuration as the only remediation I could find was to start from scratch with the .ova image, reconfigure my interfaces, etc.  If anyone else does this and is further along with their configuraition, I hope you had a backup of your configuration.  Luckily for me I was just trying to get to the latest firmware version on the virtual appliance before I started doing anything with it, so other than losing some time starting over a few times while I tried to figure this out, I didn't lose any configuration.

If you look at the following link http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21237631 which details all of our supported releases, click on the 5.0.0.6 Virtual Edition Release notes link, then click on the link to see the APAR fixes at WebSphere DataPower Integration Appliance XI52 Virtual Edition.  There you will see a list of all of the APAR fixes with the following near the top of the page:

Note: You can install the 5.0.0.6 fix pack when your appliance has build 220750 (5.0.0.0 release, 30 November 2012) or 222984 (5.0.0.5 fix pack). Do not install the 5.0.0.6 fix pack when your appliance has build 227007 (5.0.0.0 release, 29 March 2013). The March release includes all fixes through the 5.0.0.5 fix pack and supports the IBM PureApplication and IBM Workload Deployer environments. If you install the 5.0.0.6 fix pack on an appliance with build 227007, unexpected results can occur.

I suspect if you recently received your XI-52 Virtual .ova file, it is at the March 29th 227007 build, so installing 5.0.0.6 is producing the results you are seeing.  If you start over, you should see the build number after the initial signon to verify that is the problem.

    Regards,

    Steve

Thanks a lot, Steve. Yes, I have 227007.
