Pinned topic Attributes with xml schema (from Doors) in RPE 1.2

‏2013-05-07T11:08:06Z |

Hi

I'm working with RPE 1.2.

I create a Template to generate Documents from DOORS.

Is it possible to generate the Attributes from DOORS with a XML schema so I don't have to create them in the documents (in DOORS) every time?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sidika

    Hey Dragos,

I created a template to generate documents from Doors.

I configured a .dot document (in RPE) in the output for the layout/the master page and created fields in my RPE template.

To take my Attributes from Doors from the master page (header, footer, tables with Information about author, Issuer ect.) I defined the destination address for the fields in the RPE.

In the .dot document I created text marker with attributes from Doors.

After this, I generated the template and have a master page with all the attributes from DOORS.

    So everything is fine.

My Problem is now, that I first have to create all the attributes (with values) in the module in DOORS, to get them ,after generating the document, in RPE.

Now my question is if there is any solution to get the Attributes with a schema like

this to make it easier for the end user.

    …..

Is there another solution for my problem if this doesn't work?

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

    Sidika

    Hey Sidika,

let me see if I get this right: you have a number of properties that you now add to each of your DOORS modules so that you can include them in the generated documents. Is this right?

    Hello Dragos,

Yes, I have a number of properties that I add to each of my DOORS modules to generate them with the RPE to Word and PDF.

I have a Master Page with discription of author, Issuer, Project and so on in tables.

I use a .dot file for the layout and fill in the tables with marks (the properties from Doors).

I created fields for the properties in RPE so that I get the properties after generating to Word/Pdf.

So, is it possible to create a template with a xml schema, that the user just configure his DOORS modul without adding each property to DOORS?

Is it possible to generate alle the properties automatically from the DOORS module with a xml schma?

    Thanks for your help!

    Regards,

    Sidika

    Hey Sidika,

    >>> So, is it possible to create a template with a xml schema, that the user just configure his DOORS modul without adding each property to DOORS?

Yes, if you need to input data in your report you have several options which are preferable over modifying the data:

    - use RPE variables and have their values introduced in the docspec

    - put those values in an XML file ( the one in your first post for example), define an XSD for the XML and add that XSD as a data source in the RPE template.  Use "Generic XML" as the data source type.

    Hey Dragos,

    thank you for your answer!

    I will try it.

I don't understand what you mean with RPE variables?

Can you give me an example? It would be nice.

    Hey Sidika,

RPE Template Variables can be used as variable sin programming languages, to calculate/store data or as means to get input from the user. The first are the internal  variables ( the user does not see them) and the second are the external variables ( the user sees them in the document specification and can input values for them).

    See this for more details:

    Hey Drogos,

    thank you for the answer.

I created a XSD schema now and put it to the Generic XML.

After configuring the Generic XML, I get all the Attributes, for example "author", "Last Modified", "Name" and a few others. Thanks for that.

I put the data source Generic XML on the top of my template. Now I can't generate any documents. The RPE cenceled the generating.

I have to create for each attribute (name, author,...) a variable and drop it to the container in my template to connect the RPE with DOORS?

Thank you so much for all your help.

    Regards,

    Sidika

    Hey Sidika,

what is the error you get? Lacking further data I can only guess the XML is invalid. Try opening the XML  in a browser and see if you get any errors. Also make sure the XML matches the schema as otherwise queries will return no results and their content will be ignored.

    Hey Dragos,

sorry for the late answer. You're right! The xml was invalid :)

Should I connect the generic XML data source with the Doors data source to get the Attributes/properties from Doors ?

Otherwise I can't get the Information from Doors.

    How can I connect them?
