Pinned topic Red Hat Linux training

‏2013-01-22T15:35:14Z |
My customer is looking to see what IBM might have for Red Hat Linux online/free study guides or training -- do we have anything like that?  My customer set in this case are primarily AIX sys admins who want to get familiar with Linux and possibly go for some certifications in Linux.

We're poking around a bit.    I'm not sure IBM actually provides Red Hat training for free - at least over and above what's already available on the Red Hat training site (http://www.redhat.com/training/).     I'm sure there are services teams inside IBM and across business partners who might have specialized and targeted training, so if you need something specific that may be the path to try.

There's another portal that several of us watch:  http://poweritpro.com/.     Mel Beckham and Erwin Earley have published a number of educational and informative articles around Linux on Power, many of which are targeted at existing Power customers who are naturally more familiar with AIX and/or IBM i.   Here's a couple of examples:

In general, I would recommend that they embrace Linux as general Linux, and if they have specific questions around Power systems, ask detailed questions on the message board.

I looked at the Red Hat training site (http://www.redhat.com/training/) and only found fee-based training.  Can you possibly point me to a specific selection at this site that is free?  Any Red Hat training at all would be fine, it certainly doesn't need to be specific to PowerLinux.

There are a few workshops that are provided free of charge for LInux on Power. These are usually offered to prospective customers that are in the process of purchasing Power equipment. They are hosted by a local Power CTS and sales rep.  I believe the training is called Power Virtualization for Linux which is lead by the IBM STG ATS group.  I hosted one of these 3 day workshops in San Antonio last year. It was a great success.

The Workshop requires about 20 students to make to workshop. This is a hands-on workshop and it assumes working knowledge of Linux.
