Pinned topic nmon2web and AME

‏2013-07-05T13:24:08Z | ame display nmon2web statistics

Hello,

we are using nmon2web and we have noticed that all our LPARs who are configured to use AME (Active Memory Expansion) report empty memory statistics. Seems there are some additional columns collected by nmon:

here the collected values on a system without AME in use:

MEM,Memory sapl3p,Real Free %,Virtual free %,Real free(MB),Virtual free(MB),Real total(MB),Virtual total(MB)

and now the values on a system with AME:

MEM,Memory sapl1e,Real Free %,Virtual free %,Real free(MB),Virtual free(MB),Real total(MB),Virtual total(MB),Size of the Compressed pool(MB), Size of true memory(MB), Expanded memory size(MB), Size of the Uncompressed pool(MB)

in case of AME the nmon2web fails and presents empty RRD charts in the memory section.

Somebody able to help us?

Thx a lot

Stefan

Post a nmon.csv file and I'll take a look at it.  I'm embarassed to admit that I don't have access to a Power6 or 7 machine.

    Hello Bruce,

    see attached two nmon.files:

switch to MEM section - in the first file:

sapl3p_130708_0005.nmon the output without activated AME

    in the second

sapl3p_130719_0005.nmon the output with activated AME

Hope those are the outputs you expected me to sent (generated with /usr/bin/nmon -fdYNA).

Sorry to hear that you have no p6/p7 access - I will try to ask an IBM guy if there is a way to get connected to such devices.

    Stefan

I don't see a difference in the memory section of the files you posted.

    <code>

    grep "^MEM," sapl3p_130708_0005.nmon | head -1
    MEM,Memory sapl3p,Real Free %,Virtual free %,Real free(MB),Virtual free(MB),Real total(MB),Virtual total(MB)

    grep "^MEM," sapl3p_130719_0005.nmon | head -1
    MEM,Memory sapl3p,Real Free %,Virtual free %,Real free(MB),Virtual free(MB),Real total(MB),Virtual total(MB)

    </code>

I'm almost certain that the addition of a new columns is the cause of the problem.  It messes up the parsing... I verify and write a workaround.  May take a week or so due to my "day job".

In the mean time, can you post an nmon with AME turned on?  I need something I can test.  Thanks!

I used the attached nmon2web.pl file to generate the charts in the PDF file.  I don't see a problem with missing charts.

    Give it a try

    Hello Bruce,

Great job, wow .. works perfectly well - just exchanged the script everything works fine.

    SUPER .. thanks a lot ..!!!

I couldn't ask a friend of mine who is working for IBM if its possible to give you access to a p7 system, because seems he still is on holiday.

If you want me to test some p7 stuff - just give me message.

    Greetings from Kassel, Germany

    Hello Bruce

I have been using nmon2web for 4 years and love it..

My question is .. I am running nmon on a vio server gathering stats on SEA and NPIV devices.. will nmon2web graph the SEA and NPIV fcs devices?

    Thanks

    Brett

No, the nmon2web doesn't support vio SEA and NPIV devices.   The reason is that I don't have access to a machine with these features.

I'd be more than happy to add it on if you can provide the nmon.csv files from your vio server.  Post them to this forum or send to me.

Thank you!  I looked at the file and I see what I need.  However, I won't be able to test it because there's only 2-3  data points.  Doesn't show up on the charts.

I'll look at it over the weekend.  My "day job" is keeping me busy.

Waiting for an nmon file with more data points.

I'll start with what I've got. It will take a week or so.

    I'll post results here.

Brett:  I've uploaded a "beta" script that includes SEA and Fibre channel statistics.  Let me know if this is what you had in mind.

    Hi Bruce

I have noticed that the version of nmon2web I am currently using is getting the SEA adapter stats already..

    Version

    nmon2web_20120730

I have downloaded the update and will test it out and let you know..

    Thanks
