Pinned topic Problem adding node to a cluster from console and via addnode.sh

‏2013-06-27T04:59:53Z |

I keep getting the same error when trying to add a node via the console as well as via the addnode.sh script.

addnode.sh zookeeper XXXX
[WARN] DupHostDefender - XXXX is not reachabel in 10s, this often indicates there is a network problem
[FATAL] Can not addNodes beacuse XXXX are not reachable.
java.lang.RuntimeException: Can not addNodes beacuse XXXX are not reachable.
at com.ibm.xap.mgmt.DeployCmdline.resolveHosts(DeployCmdline.java:654)
at com.ibm.xap.mgmt.DeployCmdline.runCommand(DeployCmdline.java:236)

I've tried swapping XXXX with both the hostname and IP address. I've verified that I can ping this node from the management node. What reasons would cause this error?

Which version of Biginsights are you using ? If you're using Biginsights v2.0, it used to try to establish a TCP connection on port 7 (echo port) to determine if a host can be reachable, so you need to make sure port 7 is open and no firewall blocks remote hosts from connecting it. If you are using biginsights 2.1, that is changed to check port 22, as long as your ssh can work, it should be fine.
