Pinned topic SFNTGetLicense failed.

‏2014-09-01T13:10:58Z |

I have installed a zPDT environment, and based on the messages at startup it seems to be up and running.  I am now attempting to install z/OS 2.1 and have got as far as unzipping all the required files, bar 2;  sares1.zPDT and sares1.zPDT.

According to the instrutions I have found, these files are encrypted and I need to use the 'Z1090_ADCD_install' utility to decrypt and create the files.  However, when running this utility I get the following messages:

[ibmsys1@oc0512845853 ADCD]$ Z1090_ADCD_install sares1.zPDT sares1.gz

Info: Z1090_ADCD_install: creating file sares1.gz for installation.

Info: This procedure can take several minutes to complete.

Error: Failed to get license. Return code: 312.

Error: Unable to locate expected license: 0D98

SFNTGetLicense failed.  Return code: 312

Any ideas on this?

I managed to find the problem.  The instructions I was following were to run the utility as follows:

$ Z1090_ADCD_install s1res1.zPDT /z/S1RES1  (however this would produce the error about the license)

    What did work was:

    $ Z1090_ADCD_install s1res1.zPDT /z/S1RES1.cdk

Does the USB key need to be plugged in when running this command?

Well, we tried all combinations  (i.e. without USB key, with USB key, without .cdk and with .cdk), still getting the license error.  Please help

Update:  I found in the SG248205 zPDT reference that when the upw files for the USB keys are shipped in a zip, we now need to use the zpdtSecureUpdate -z command instead of the SecureUpdateUtility -r command to install the license files.  This wasn't so obvious from the RD&T docs but perhaps we didn't read them carefully enough.  Apparently the zip file contains two additional upw files, one for each of the encrypted .ZPD files.

    I´ve found in SG248205 manual...

    ...

The files involved in license updates are:

xxxxxx.upw (update zPDT license expiration date)

    xxxxxx.upw.1 (needed to install IBM z/OS 2.1 AD-CD IPL volume)1

    xxxxxx.upw.2 (needed to install z/OS 2.1 AD-CD IPL volume)

xxxxxx.nlf (needed once for internal token update)

xxxxxx.zip (contains the .upw, upw.1, .upw.2, and nlf files)

    ...
