Pinned topic DS5020 with V7000 replication issue.

‏2013-06-02T06:52:17Z |

Hi,

We have DS4700 in DC site and another DS5020 at DR site using Sync Replication. Now we want to replace our DS4700 with V7000.

Anyone can help me, Is it possible to replicate data from V7000 to DS5020 and vice-versa?

Thanks

Mokarrom

No direct replication possible between V7000 and DS5020. But what you can do is, replace the the DS4700 by a V7000 and put the DS5020 on DR site behind also a V7000. This last one can be a v7k without drives. Then you can set up a Metro Mirror between the two sites.

      Thanks Masteen for your reply.

Till now I am not clear. Our HO site already has ds4700. We have DS5020 storage at DR site and our HO-DR replication is sync replication. Every week we did dr drill.

Now we want to replace our HO DS4700 storage with v7000 due to IBM support expiration. But, due to our bugged we are able to buy one storage and it can be V7000.

Can you pls help me out, is one V7000 (like as another ds5020 HO site) box enough to satisfy my requirement? Or two boxes are needed?

      Thanks

    yes and no.
There is no possibility to replicate direct data from these storages. But you can use V7000 volume mirror feature, if you'll virtualize DS5020 "behind" V7000. Two things you have to keep in mind:
    - it's syncronious only replication,
    - normally servers will have access only to V700. In case you'll need to switch to DS5020, several manual operation should be performed.

So this is only a DR solution with remote copy on DS5020.
