Pinned topic IBM Installation Tooklit for PowerLinux

‏2013-04-12T01:26:41Z |
I am following the IBMIT_53 User Manual, first time.  After I boot to SMS, choose my DVD image in the Virtual Optical Media, and select 1 for the wizard,  everything appears to be progressing smoothly, but when the screen stops scrolling, the terminal screen is garbled; some text, some things showing in red, and a lot of letter "a" with a carat character on the top followed by a double ending quote, repeated several times.  Not sure how to get a good screen that I can actually work with.  See below.  Probably something simple, but I can't figure it out.

Some additional info:  Power 720 8202-E4B, VIOS, IVM, IBMi and AIX LPARs built without issues, this is the first Linux LPAR.

Never mind, just figured out that the encoding needed to be changed.

     Is anyone out there?

Got through my pilot installation, but the SLES 11 (in color) screens are all jumbled and garbled.  Is there a correct encoding to be able to actually read the screens instead of simply using F10 rather blindly?

What is your console/terminal set-up?   Physically attached screen, or ascii terminal, or .. ?

What changes did you make for the encoding in your earlier comment?

    Thanks,

Using IVM, simply use the dropdown from there to "Open terminal window".  The defalt encodin in the terminal window that pops up is set to ISO-8859-1.  I initiall changed it to UTF-8 to get through the Installation Toolkit.  After that, the SuSE Installation screens (in color) were garbled.  Tried other encoding setting somwhat randomly but they did not appear to help.  Other encodings on the dropdown are ISO-8859-2, ISO-8859-5, EUC-JP, EUC-KR, GB2312, and BIG5.
