Pinned topic Ethernet Management Ports Configuration on DS 3512 1746-C2A

‏2013-05-28T23:40:56Z |

Hi Experts,

I'm trying to instruct the remote site engineer to get my DS 3512 1746-C2A configured with static IP, we don't have a BOOTP/DHCP server available @ the data center.

we don't even have a management machine to accomplish this, is  there a way to configure the Ethernet Management Ports with the help of a laptop which we can utilize as a management system for initial setup.

Please advice ..

Thanks in Advance

    Hi Anders,

    Thanks for your time

we are facing issue to get a DS Storage Manager Agent Installble which supports MS Winows XP 32Bit, as the site engineer having an MS XP Lap I've  gone through IBM Support site but unable to get a standalone installer, only refresh/upgrade packs available for download.

we have connected the Laptop with controller A port 1 with default range 192.168.128.X and able to ping to the default IP 192.168.128.101 but no luck with the supported agent version for MS Windows XP.

    Thanks In Advance

The storage manager in the 32 bit version should support a 32 bit Windows XP.

    ibm_sw_ds3-5k_10.86.x5.28_windows_intl386.zip (313.13 MB)

Its avilable through the standard "support & downloads" site on ibm.com

Yes, it says "refresh pack:" but it contains all you need.

If the DS3512 cannot reach a DHCP server during startup, it defaults to the following:

The default IP addresses of the first management Ethernet ports are:
    Controller A: 192.168.128.101
    Controller B: 192.168.128.102
The default IP addresses of the second management Ethernet ports are:
    Controller A: 192.168.129.101
    Controller B: 192.168.129.102

If you install the DS Storage Manager on the Laptop, change the laptop's ip adress to something like 192.168.128.xx, and connect the laptop to the storage, you can change the IP Address. I remember there is something like you can only change Ctrl A's IP through Ctrl B and vise versa...but it'll tell you if you try to do it wrong.

    Hi Anders,

Thanks for your timely help and clarification

we have successfull configured two ethernet management ports Controller A Port1 & Controller B Port1 with the help of remote site engineer.

    Tasks Performed

Downloaded and installed supported MS WINDOWS XP DS Storage mananger version 10.86 in site engineers Laptop
Connected to DS3512 Controller A Port1 with site engineers Lap NIC port and configured IP range 192.168.128.X

Verified the connectivity to DS3512 by pinging the default Controller A Port1 IP 192.168.128.101

Using DS Storage Manager from Lap we have auto discovered the DS3152 and configured Controller B Port 1 first with the assigned account IP

Tested the connectivity to the configured IP it was pinging well and good

Then we have configured the Controller A Port 1 with the assigned account IP ** Note ** this will freeze site engineer connectivity to the DAS box

we have tested the Controller A Port 1 connectivity from our end, it was pinging

There you go just install the DS Storage Manager agent in any one of the account server and using auto - if the management system in same n/w segment or use manual and mention the IP to add it into DS Storage Manager

    Thanks

    Hi Ander,

    Need your help.

I'm also trying to instruct the remote site engineer to get my DS 3512 configured with static IP.

we also don't even have a management machine to accomplish this, is  there a way to configure the Ethernet Management Ports with the help of a laptop which we can utilize as a management system for initial setup.

The DS 3512 storage is in the default IP of 192 series in both controllers. We want to assign the Ip to the management ports in our subnet in 172 series so that we can create LUN from our subnet network.

Can u advice us the possible steps for this.

    Thanking u in advance.
