Technical experts from the IBM Transaction Processing Facility (TPF) Development Lab share knowledge and information about the TPF product set - including z/TPF, TPF Operations Server (TOS), z/TPF Database Facility (z/TPFDF), and the TPF Toolkit.
The z/TPF and z/TPFDF PUT 13 eDelivery packages are now available. The downloads can be accessed through the z/T P F 1 . 1 & z/T P FDF 1 . 1 tab on the TPF Fam i ly P rod u cts : Pr o duc t So f twa r e web page. Please note that there are PUT 13 downloads for the z/TPF and z/TPF product code as well as the opensource C and C++ runtime libraries, the z/TPF Software profiler, the Apache HTTP Server 2.2 package, and the Curl package. Before z/TPF PUT 13, finding a specific system heap, whether it was looking for the start or size of it, required a bit of background knowledge of that specific system heap and even then it wasn’t the easiest of tasks. Once that information was found, there were features that allowed you to look at that area in memory and even update it, but there was no guarantee that the data you were seeing or updating was completely in the specific system heap you were looking for. You might accidently go beyond the bounds of that system heap, you... [More]
In the past, the only method of viewing data collection information for a z/TPF system was to employ the offline data reduction tool on z/OS. The offline data reduction tool on z/OS was one of the few remaining tools that required customers to utilize a z/OS system to understand their critical z/TPF system. The offline data reduction tool on z/OS also required the purchase of a PL/I compiler license. In addition, z/TPFDF statistical information was not available in the offline data reduction reports. Finally, the reports generated... [More]
In APAR PJ3641 , an enhancement was made for ZDBUG CLEAR in order to allow the clearing of sessions at the port granularity. Before this APAR, two sessions with the same name could be registered on the same IP address as long as they were on different ports; however, you couldn’t clear only one of those sessions with the ZDBUG CLEAR command. The only filter available was to clear by IP address. With this APAR applied, you can clear by a specific IP address and port. In APAR PJ43689 , the ZDDMP command now supports wildcards for the... z/TPF support for sub-second retransmission improves TCP/IP performance by reducing the minimum retransmission timeout value for TCP sockets. Previously, the z/TPF system waited at least 1 second to retransmit a TCP packet. With this APAR, the minimum retransmission timeout value for a TCP packet is reduced to 20 milliseconds. The reduced timeout value is calculated based on the average round trip time and the variance from that average. PJ43958 takes effect when the APAR is installed. No other action is required. z/TPF user security support for MongoDB provides the ability to add, remove, and modify the authorizations of a user without loading any programs or files to the z/TPF system . Previously, with z/TPF support for MongoDB ( APAR PJ42292 ), the system administrator or programmer was required to code a user exit and load the user exit to the z/TPF system to authenticate users and their passwords. Also, you had to code an authorization file and load the file to the z/TPF system to define the resources that the users could access. Whenever a... [More]
We are excited to announce the availability of three UrbanCode™ Deploy beta plug-ins for z/TPF and the starter kit. Using UrbanCode Deploy within a z/TPF environment improves workflow efficiency and contributes to a continuous delivery environment. These z/TPF beta plug-ins together with other plug-ins in the UrbanCode™ Deploy ecosystem enable you to create processes that automate deploy, undeploy, commit, and promotion of artifacts to z/TPF test and production systems. The following plugin-ins are available in this beta... [More]

In an era of email scams, credit card fraud, and stolen identities, companies need to protect sensitive customer data that they store in their computer systems from being accidentally or intentionally compromised. When companies fail to adequately protect that data, both the companies and their customers can suffer from direct and indirect financial losses. Until now, z/TPFDF has not provided the ability to encrypt sensitive data at rest. z/TPFDF APAR PI56476 and co-requisite z/TPF APAR PJ43935 provide z/TPFDF... [More]

With z/TPF support for MongoDB, remote distributed systems can access the z/TPFDF databases by using the standard MongoDB clients. Standard MongoDB client libraries exist in different programming languages and graphical user interface (GUI) applications are available to access z/TPFDF databases. Accessing z/TPFDF databases by using z/TPF support for MongoDB does not require any changes to the z/TPF applications. However, to use z/TPF support for MongoDB, the code must be built with the GCC 4.6 (version tpf-11r1-13 or later) or the... [More]
