PJ32404 (ZOLDR LOAD CFVS) now available

In the past, whenever there was an APAR that required CFVS to be updated, you could not use ZOLDR to load it.  Instead you were forced to do either do a ZTPLD or a general file load.  Because ZTLPD and general file loads require an IPL, you might not have installed file system enhancements and fixes as soon as they became available, but might have postponed doing so until your next scheduled IPL.

With PJ32404, it is now possible to use ZOLDR to load CFVS under many circumstances.  This means the next time there is an APAR that affects CFVS, chances are you can use ZOLDR to load it on your systems prior to an IPL.  Of course, to install PJ32404 itself you will be required to use ZTPLD (or a general file load). As part of PJ32404, we also made changes that ensure that UDDS can be loaded using ZOLDR.

There will be some situations in which future APAR changes to CFVS might still require a ZTPLD (or a general file load) to load it, and in these cases we will notify you in the migration considerations for that APAR.

PJ32404 also made some other changes to the file system, including fixing some base bugs.

For additional information, please see the APEDIT for PJ32404 available at this link:

As usual, if you have any questions, please feel free to let us know.  (For example, you can contact  your CSR or TPFQA, or open a PMR.  But if you have a question, you can also just comment on this blog entry.)

As usual, we hope you find PJ32404 useful in managing the installation of future enhancements and fixes to our file system support.
