SPE APAR PJ43494 – Enhancements to DASD module status command ZDMFS and ZDMOD DISPLAY

  

The DASD module status commands ZDMFS and ZDMOD DISPLAY have been updated to include filters for MPLF connect devices, offline devices and devices in module copy state.  The information presented by these new filters was in each of the displays prior to this APAR, but the onus was on the user to find the desired modules by status.  With this APAR applied the user can find modules by status more quickly. This is an aid in the case of finding offline modules or determining if your MPLF connect devices are evenly spread.

 

In addition the following enhancements are provided:

 

  • The output from ZDMFS has been enabled to use ZPAGE support.  This will allow simpler automation to get a full display of modules to the console.  For example if ZDMFS ONLINE is input, automation will now just have to issue ZPAGE rather than having to reissue the command for another set of modules after the first 18 modules come to the console.
  • The module copy status indicators have been enhanced.  Rather than displaying that a module is in copy the display will indicate in which type of copy (copy ALL or copy UP) this module is participating and if it is source or target module.

 

Here are examples of the new displays. Note that will ZDMFS you may input a starting symbolic module number and count to manage what the filter provides on output.

Notes:

  • A starting module number was input on the ZDMFS example. This starts the display at a different point than the associated ZDMOD DISPLAY example.
  • These outputs shows MPLF connect devices that are BSS modules. You will have to input the ZDMFS/ZDMOD command in your other MDBF subsystems to see those MPLF devices. Be especially aware of this in case your MDBF subsystems are spread across the same DASD logical controllers (LSS).
