Monitoring Agent for z/TPF V1.1.2 and continuous data collection support for z/TPFDF data collection counters

The IBM Tivoli Monitoring Agent for z/TPF V1.1.2 is available from the TPF Family Products: Tools web page and adds support for z/TPFDF data collection counters, as well as a number of additional updates and fixes.

APAR PJ42742, and prerequisite APAR PI30702, enhance continuous data collection (CDC) to include z/TPFDF data collection counters. This support provides you with the ability to monitor z/TPFDF API activity in an IBM Tivoli Monitoring environment.  This enhancement can provide insight into z/TPFDF API activity in your system and can be used to understand and tune your z/TPFDF applications.

As with all CDC data in IBM Tivoli Monitoring, you can use the z/TPFDF data in the following ways:

  • View the data as near real-time data in default or user-customized views.
  • Store the data in the Tivoli Data Warehouse as historical data that you can use to understand CDC data over time.
  • Use the data to set user-defined situations to generate events base on CDC data.

z/TPFDF data collection counters are presented as sets of top N rate and delta values by file IDs based on four preselected z/TPFDF APIs (DBRED, DBOPN, DBADD, DBDEL), as well as three user-selected APIs.  For example, one set of counters displays activity by file ID based on DBRED API calls, another set of counters displays activity based on DBOPN API calls, and so on.

In addition to z/TPFDF data collection counters, APAR PJ42742 provides the following updates:

  1. Support for pool type 4S6 which was added by prerequisite APAR PJ42299.
  2. Adjusted processor utilization data added to the existing CDC_ISTREAM metric collection.
  3. ALT tape data was removed from the CDC_TAPE metric collection.
