It is my privilege to announce that IBM TPF Toolkit 4.6 is generally available on Passport Advantage.
This release is a significant departure from the previous versions of the TPF Toolkit product. A lot of focus and effort has gone into improving usability from the bottom up. From installation of the product to the everyday development tasks the recurring question has been "Can we make this simpler to use?". A good example is managing debug sessions. In prior releases debug sessions were tightly associated with a single z/TPF system, meaning that if a new z/TPF system was introduced a user would need to recreate every debug session from scratch. In TPF Toolkit 4.6, users create debug sessions independent of which z/TPF system it is destined for and can register the same debug session to multiple systems.
Another key focus area was exploring the new technologies that are available in the Eclipse Neon platform and incorporating them into our product. The combination of the Parallel Tools Platform project (PTP) and the C/C++ Development Tools project (CDT) provide some exciting opportunities for developing z/TPF applications. The synchronized project infrastructure provided by PTP enables using the suite of tools available from CDT to enhance the application development user experience. For instance, the Toolkit team has provided an action to integrate the MakeTPF build environment with the CDT Include Paths mechanism that allows remote header files to be resolved and can accessed with a simple key combination.
I invite you to take a look at the TPF Toolkit's What's New topic in Knowledge Center for a more complete picture of what is available in the release. Having the TPF Toolkit documentation available in the z/TPF Knowledge Center is new in this release as well!
Regards from the TPF Toolkit team.
