The 8.5 release of IBM Forms Experience Builder (FEB) is now available. This FEB Teck Talk reviews the exciting new features in v8.5 that allow forms to be quickly created and fully integrated into enterprise web platforms. It is simpler than ever to included web forms in WebSphere Portal applications. Capabilities of the Forms Experience Portlet has been expanded to allow multiple forms to appear in a single portal page, complete with portal wires for moving form data between portlets. One can now quickly create pre-configured instances of form-based web applications for use with Portal Page Builder.
Also, it is now possible to build sophisticated portal applications by embedding a form or survey results into rich text using iFrames. One does not have to write any code to create a power portal experience that includes web forms, it is all done by setting a few configuration parameters. One important highlight of this release is the enablement of community surveys in IBM Connections. One can now build social surveys with FEB and add the survey as a natural part of a community page. With IBM Connections v4.5, survey widgets are now available that display either a list of active community surveys or a single form within a community page. Using surveys within communities help businesses engage more efficiently and cost-effectively in social networks. Another important capability of Forms Experience Builder v8.5 is that its empowers both the technical and non-technical business professional to build form-based web applications. Using familiar web interactions one can build a form and share results using an easy-to-use web based designer. For example one can drag form items onto a page, rearrange form objects within a flexible grid, add custom business rules, and include basic workflow logic into the form design.
