If you're new to Worklight, go to the Worklight site he mentions and get the download. You'll find what you need to get started. If you get stuck, post a question on the installation or development forum. For those of you who are familiar with v4.2, I wanted to mention a couple of the new Worklight features that Raj hinted at. Recen tly, I had the pleasure of attending the JAX Conference in San Francisco. It was a wonderful event with some truly top-notch speak ers, i ncluding Rich Hickey (of Clojure and Datomic fame), Douglas Crockford , Neal Ford , and numerous others. Simon Maple had created a cluster of Raspberry Pis running the WebSphere Liberty Profile to host the social feed on large monitors in the demonstration zone. The Raspberry Pi is truly a wonderful project -- I strongly encourage you to read the FAQ section of their site. We used the... [More]
One of the cool things (I need to use that phrase, baking in Austin's 100+ degrees F) to do in summer are various industry conferences that occur to take me away to mostly cooler places. This year it started off with Innovate in Orlando (luckily was cooler than Texas). This was a good conference in many ways, personally. I got to meet some old friends, enjoyed talking about mobile development, making some new friends, learning about innovative ideas, talking to various partners and enjoying the milder weather. I also got some street cred by... [More]

Abstract This article explains how to install IBM Worklight Server on a Linux Virtual Machine (VM) at the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) service . Amazon EC2 allows account holders to create, start, stop, and terminate VM instances on-demand. Because Amazon encourages consumers of the Linux VMs to use command-line operations instead of graphical interfaces, this article explains how to perform a command-line silent install of Worklight Server using a response file with the IBM Installation Manager. Main steps - Create account at... [More]

Introduction I recently started learning how to use the Amazon EC2 service. I wrote an article describing how to install and run a Worklight Server on a Linux VM at Amazon EC2 [ here ]. The next step to make use of the Worklight Server is to deploy an app. My colleague Josh Alger... [More]

As mobile devices become full-fledged computer s in their own right, the processing power of these devices will let users start working and being productive even when there is no connectivity or when connectivity is sporadic: think mining engineers working in disconnected mines several miles underground or a traveling salesman shuttling between various geos, crisscrossing network/data plans and connectivity.
Hence, true offline capabilities include the ability to have access to my corporate or personal consumer data as part of the... [More]
