Merchandising in WebSphere Commerce Management Center Vs Watson Commerce Insights
As you get on-boarded into Watson Commerce insights (WCI) with WebSphere Commerce , You might be wondering what happens to sequencing and thumbnail feature in WebSphere Commerce Management Center (CMC) as this feature is also provided by WCI. This blog post is to clarify which tool can be used for a specific tasks and how these features co-exists together in different tools.
As a merchandiser, you would have been creating product sequencing and thumbnail in CMC but how does it get changed after enabling WCI integration? You can still use CMC for it but WCI is Visual Merchandising Tool which offers a powerful performance metric insights which you can leverage to take your product sequencing decisions.
Lets go over following merchandiser tasks which co-exists in both tools and walk you through the different tooling options,
1. Manual Sequencing
Manual sequencing of a product under a category can be done in both CMC and WCI tools but WCI sequencing takes precedence over CMC. In WCI, Merchandiser have ability to review the products analytic metrics and can take a well informed decision like where to place the product under a category based on it's selling performance. For example, You can push a product to top of the category if it's selling low and you would like to sell more of it by placing them on top. Also, WCI allows you to drag and drop the product under a category instead of entering the sequencing numbers manually. You can learn more about WCI manual sequencing in Changing the product sequencing with Manual sequencing page. WCI enables you to change sequencing in store view without leaving WCI and it gives the ability to see how the change would look in storefront compare to other products under that category.
And, remember that when new product added to manual sequence enabled category then merchandiser need to sequence it using WCI otherwise it will get displayed at the end of the category.
Once you enabled manual sequencing for a category in WCI, then it takes precedence over CMC sequencing. Also, lets say you have 100 products under a specific category and if you have only sequenced first 50 products in WCI then remaining 50 products will be still using CMC sequencing.
2. Intelligent Sequencing & Pin Feature
Intelligent sequencing is only available in WCI. It enables you to change the sequence of products by creating an automatic condition to update your pages automatically by using metrics. Displaying product sequencing with intelligent sequencing knowledge center page explains the steps involved in enabling it for a specific category in WCI. Pin feature also only available in WCI along with intelligent sequencing. You can pin 1 or more products to override any intelligent sequencing rules, so those pinned products appear at the top of the category for maximum visibility. Changing product placement with the pin feature knowledge center page explains about this feature and how you can use it.
When you logged into CMC, You can't tell whether intelligent sequencing enabled for a category or not and you need to login WCI to confirm the same. Recommendation is that you should be doing sequencing for a category only in one spot either in CMC or WCI.
Featured Image Selection
When you want to change products featured image under a specific category to ensure that your products are up to date with your inventory, the season, and keep their visual appeal to attract customers then you can use WCI. WCI lets you change faceout images visually by product by category and to choose a SKU image to use as your faceout image. Meanwhile, CMC lets you to change the reference to the product image and the change is catalog wide. WCI helps you to review the product performance metrics to take an informed decision, for example, where you want to promote a specific SKU by selecting it as a featured image based on it's high inventory availability.
Overall, WCI is a powerful Visual Merchandising Tool with its products performance metrics insight which will help merchandiser to take well informed sequencing and featured image selection decisions to increase product sales.
