Getting Duplicate Emails?
Are your clients getting duplicate emails on abandoned carts? There are two possible causes.
If you are running WebSphere Commerce V7 and you're running a version below Fix Pack 8 Cumulative1 interim fix; you'd need to install JR49493.
If you are already on Fix Pack 8 Cumulative1 interim fix or higher, then continue reading...
Out of the box, user registration allows you to enter two email addresses (EMAIL1 and EMAIL2 of the ADDRESS table). If a user opts in to receive marketing emails and only EMAIL1 was specified, the shopper registration process will copy EMAIL1's value into EMAIL2. For more information, review Tips for testing triggers and actions in dialog activities.
Without further configuration, the messaging process will consider both EMAIL1 and EMAIL2 as two individual addresses and will send the marketing email messages to both addresses. Since you have the same email address in both, you'd be getting duplicate emails.
To avoid such case, you can configure WebSphere Commerce to prevent sending multiple emails to the same email address. Details on this configuration can be found at Configuring your store to avoid sending multiple marketing e-mails to the same e-mail address.
