Do you have time-based content items on your web site, such as limited-time-only bargain products? The new workflow offset feature in IBM Lotus Web Content Management 7.0 workflow actions can help you manage these time-based items.
In WCM 7.0, you do not have to calculate the exact date and time at which your content items change their states (e.g. published to expired). You can now configure some workflow actions(e.g. Scheduled Move Action, Email Action and Custom Action) to specify how long to wait before running an action.
The diagram below shows how the Offset works. In a nutshell, [Time to launch an action] = [Base Time] +/- [Offset]
Some example of [Base Time] are Live Date, Expire Date and Date Entered Stage.
For instance, when creating a content item showing a 3-hour-only sale that will start at 11am 1st August, make a scheduled move action with an offset of [Live Date] + [3 Hours]. Then, assign this action with a publish action into a stage of a new content item with its Publish Date set to 11am 1s August. Also, put a expire action on the next stage. Once the content item is pushed into the publish stage, the sale page will be available to your customers for 3 hours from 11am 1st August.
