So, Day one of a new WCM site!
Melissa Howarth, one of our WCM Field Excellence engineers, and I have started planning for a new WCM site here in the Lab. This is nothing new for us. We've both built many different sites using WCM...but this is the first time I'm going to blog about the experience...
The site we are developing will form the basis of some educational material we are planning to develop later in the year. But to produce the educational material, we need a simple, but comprehensive, WCM sample site. So, following our own best practices, we are not blindly creating new items on our WCM system...instead we are taking the time to think and plan what we want from the site, and how to build it successfully.
So, how did we start? We had a meeting. A brainstorming session where we threw around ideas and tried to decide what we wanted to achieve. We didn't try to come up with anything too concrete at this stage, but we did make a lot of progress in outlining the basic project structure. One thing that made it easier for us is that we're not working from a completely blank canvas. We already have a sample site in development, but it is a little too complex for the educational material we hope to build. So our first step in planning our sample site is to decide what parts of the current sample we want to use in our sample, and how to use them. I'll be working on that sometime in the next day or so...
We also came up with a rough outline (very rough) of how the course might be structured....this, of course, will change over time as we more fully develop the course, but we wanted to give ourselves an overview of what we are trying to achieve...
