African Innovation: A Growing IT Ecosystem

What is the key to building an innovative IT ecosystem? In Kenya, it’s harambee, which In Swahili means pulling together, collaborating or supporting each other. The collaborative environment in Kenya and across East Africa is contributing to the creation of innovative technologies to meet the unique needs of local citizens. For example, IBM 2013 SmartCamp winner and Global Enterpreneur of the Year, MoDe, offers a mobile nano-credit platform that ensure people have access to mobile airtime when needed. mFarm, a resident at Kenya startup incubator, iHub, offers farmers a way to transact with customers via text message.
