The Buzz On Buzz

These are strange days indeed.
Over the weekend, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. agreed to buy 85-year-old investment bank Bear Stearns for $2.00 a share, or about $236 million.
Juxtapose that with this morning's announcement that BMC Software also announced a deal, to purchase the data center automation software provider BladeLogic for $800 million (BladeLogic was founded in September 2001.)
$236 million, 85-year-old company. $800 million, seven-year old company.
But that's not where all the buzz is today.
That would apparently be with Yahoo! and the still-in-beta Yahoo! Buzz.
ReadWriteWeb deconstructs the new Yahoo! social news aggregator, calling it a game changer, trouble for Digg, and raising the tide for many other Web publishing boats.
By way of example, early Buzz beta results in late February and early March helped tip Salon.com over 1 million uniques in one day for the first time in Salon's history, after Yahoo.com linked to a "buzz" story featured Buzz!
That's a whole lot of beta buzz, but I'll be anxious to see the numbers once Yahoo!'s buzz is fully unleashed upon the world.
