What do you know about making software fully accessible? For software development, accessibility means enabling IT hardware, software and Web application products so they can be used by more people, either directly, or in combination with assistive technology products. Are you familiar with :
We all have a "challenge" .. ..whether physical, mental, cultural, language based or that we blog on My developerWorks. Accessibility removes the barriers that prevent certain groups of people from accessing information. If you don't know much about it...
What every developer should know about accessibility

WOW...this is exciting.........
This ties in quite nicely to my daily monitoring of my energy consumption and fyi...thank goodness the energy consumption is going down...as our temperatures have moderated...our usage has declined:

Well, I want one that is smart...but what does that really mean? How can the "Earth" be smart or smarter? The planet is full of people...and lots of them... and lots of them are smart or want to be smart. People ...it just takes people....we are the change agents.... as we are the ones that can spur innovation. ...and that is you and me.
We, the people, are the ones that can make a difference. But how? I know I can use (or not use) devices and tools that change the impact I have on the planet. But is that what smarter really is? Yes ...and no. I have the chance to do more.
Technology is key. First though, I need some skills...and that is where developerWorks just SHINES. I have found so many valuable resources on developerWorks - from forums, to free code trials, to tutorials and training, to great technical articles, to My developerWorks blogs and bookmarks. From Ajax to Zend Core, developerWorks is the a great source for technical skill-building resource.
When I take it to the simplest level, Smarter Planet is about making this world a better place to live. So my learning new skills, applying them for the greater good and sharing what I know is one element of Smarter Planet.......and who doesn't want to make this world a better place?

Today I was pondering how long I wait....wait for screens to load...wait for applications to churn....wait for test cases to conclude...wait for response in e-mail....wait for updates on my social networks....wait for food to be prepared...wait in lines ..... wait at stop lights..... wait for meetings to start....wait for meetings to end.... etc etc etc.
But what about technology? How long am I willing to wait? 8- 10-20 or 30 seconds? I've read about the power of Ajax , lean green and Linux, AIX performance and LAMP. Still as I wait for the browser to refresh does it help that I understand the technology? Could it be my network, my browser, my processor, memory, the application, phase of the moon or the coder that I have to "blame" for my wait?
Blame? Should I not be looking at waiting as a blessing not a curse? After reading about SolarNetOne, I am going to look at ever refresh of the screen as a "moment of zen". Those few seconds (even if it seems like minutes) are to be treasured and not counted. ....I will do my best to remember that...what about you?
