When I break down the components of work to explain it to a 3 year old, here is what appears:
- Talk on the phone or to myself (when I use VOIP she said I look like I am talking to myself)
- Type on the keyboard
- Watch the screen for hours and hours and hours
What is not visible is the thought process nor the output. Nothing I can "hand" a 3 year old and say "I built this. I visited the new Industry zone
on developerWorks to get some ideas. Healthcare
was the best candidate as most 3 year olds understand how a doctor works. Made me wonder when the concept of software does become tangible?
Software in the context of the physical world that helps solves
problems or makes a physical device come alive, those make some sense
to a child.
