What is CouchDB and why did it get my attention? an article on developerWorks of course: CouchDB2 basics for PHP developers:A look at CouchDB from a PHP developer's point of view" by Thomas Myer, Principal, Triple Dog Dare Media and then this happened....
Somehow it all got me thinking about furniture and that without furniture would we really be able to have a CouchDB2 ...or have PHP developers? Think about it, without furniture, where would we "sit"? And then "sit" ...it is one of the first commands taught to dogs to ensure there is control in the environment. Hence, ..is furniture (sitting) a way to control a developer? If we had no furniture, would technology have ever evolved?

I used to be an operating system bigot....all concerned about what platform I was using, performance, security, etc. Now ...now I care more about my browser. I know they are tied together, it just seems easier today to blame the browser.
I prefer Firefox and yet I am glad I have IE as a back up. Sometimes IE is not the back up as there are few applications that only run with IE (don't get me started on that frustration). Sometimes Firefox has a browser freeze (I bet you love that technical explanation) at the most inopportune times and I just don't want to shut all my sessions which makes IE the backup.
For My developerWorks, Firefox is it. IE just doesn't make the grade...it does funny things (another technical explanation for when I don't like what is displayed on my screen and it is not about the content) with the layout or content (or lack thereof) presentation and I just don't have the patience or desire to debug... that is the beauty of two browsers.... no waiting...it doesn't work in one...go to the other.

Now that is a headline.....it actually is the name of book by Lisa Scottoline and it made me laugh as well as pick up the book.
It made me think about article titles of content on developerWorks. One of the reasons many of us come to developerWorks is the honest, straightforward and, dare I say, boring article titles.
Yet are they really boring?
Not boring....direct....to the point....and easily found when hunting for information. Fancy titles may catch your attention or not....what is most important is the content.

Well....in my mind they never fail..... so is that my confession that I am delusional?
A common mistake people make when trying to design something foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. - Douglas Adams, author, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (1952-2001)Need some help to get a handle on planning? .. I know I do ....dare I say...is that another confession?

Over the past few months, The Rational Edge ezine has transformed into a new Web site called “Leading Innovation,” The final issue of The Rational Edge ezine was published in late May, 2009.
“Leading Innovation” is your guide to strategic vision in software and systems delivery from IBM Rational. On these new pages, you’ll find the same thought leadership from Rational -- the writers, the papers, the technical and strategic know-how -- that The Rational Edge ezine delivered. Plus, all the past issues of The Rational Edge are there as archived editions.
“Leading Innovation” is updated frequently with new white papers and links to external articles written by IBM Rational experts and software industry gurus.
Now....for the best part..... You are invited to this new content AND if you have any comments, Mike Perrow iwelcomes your comments. Send comments to him at mailto:email@example.com with Subject: Comments about Leading Innovation
I always like when the author / owner encourages feedback. It is one of the reasons I so value the new comment/feedback template for articles on developerWorks.

Build your own virtual software factory? What a great analogy....I like simple....
For a moment, think of your software and systems delivery operations as a factory. Software products move through different departments—including analysis and planning, design and construction, delivery and operations—in much the same way traditional products move through a factory assembly line. No matter where the departments are globally, they can still produce high quality results as though they were in the same location.
How do you ensure that your factory is operating at optimal efficiency? Ask yourself these questions, and take action on the answers with the ultimate goal of reducing costs without compromising quality.

WOW...this is exciting.........
This ties in quite nicely to my daily monitoring of my energy consumption and fyi...thank goodness the energy consumption is going down...as our temperatures have moderated...our usage has declined:

Our utility company just started to offer a look into our day to day usage of electricity. An online tool (they call it a conservation tool) that allows residents to easily track daily use and monitor expenses. It is fascinating. ...especially with our very long hot summer.
We've all heard about the difference we can all make on this planet and now here is a tangible way I can readily see my impact. What's behind this online tool? Software! Do I know who's and how? No, What I do know is that it is an example of what software developers can do to help change the world...so I do know..people are behind the software...and people are you and me.
See The GReen IT Report for info on technologies and products that might give you ideas, help you learn, inspire you to create, and so much more. Every day, each of us can make a difference....as a consumer, as a worker, as a business, as a government....what will green do for you? and what can you do to be green?

So don't forget to tag or use tags....they are your best friend on My developerWorks.....

In a gross generalization, all software and hardware occasionally hiccups. My developerWorks had a few hiccups and I found I really missed visiting. I missed looking for the latest blog postings, latest bookmarks and latest additions to my groups. I was craving posting new bookmarks including this one GReen IT Report in Japanese as well as How to measure employee carbon footprints: Part 2: Putting the concept to the test: and Access Optim archive file data using Cognos and Linux: lean, clean and green and ...keep your eyes posted I am on a roll bookmarking
I am not sure it is appropriate to "miss" a software entity (is that what My developerWorks is?) but I did. I felt a little lonely without it.
