In the new, simplified IBM Support Portal, Search received a prominent location on the page to make it easier for you to start looking for
the specific content you need, whether it is installation instructions, firmware updates, or solutions to known problems.
Many people prefer to start looking for the information they need by performing a simple search. From the Support Portal,
you can search across all IBM support content or limit the search to a specific product. You can then further define the results
to narrow in on the exact information you need.
The key to an effective search in Support Portal is to first select a product on the home page. Selecting a product will improve
your Support Portal experience and help guide you to the information or tools you need. IBM has over 80,000 products, so performing
a search without narrowing it, will give you more results than you probably want. After finding a product at the top of the page,
select the checkbox under the Search support field to narrow your search to this product.
Start your query by entering a search term or phrase into the Search support field. The search results include all documents
that the visitor is authorized to view based on their support contract with IBM. You will need to sign in before viewing entitled content.
The search results page provides options that help you further narrow the available resources:
1. Use the filtering options on the left side of the page, such as task, content type, subject and user-defined social tags,
to narrow the results.
2. Social tags associated by other users appear in the results and help you categorize the information in that document.
You can look for documents with the same tag to find related information.
3. Use the star ratings to find content that others found helpful. You can rate a document and send feedback directly to the author
when you are viewing the content page.
In some cases, a search term is misspelled or so nebulous that we cannot find matches. When this happens, we provide
various ways to restate your search term to achieve better results:
1. Did you mean provides assistance for misspellings and abbreviations that will result in better search results.
For example, entering “ODBC” displays “Did you mean Open Database Connectivity?”
2. If the term is correct, but you still receive no results, consider expanding the search beyond the selected product
using the Search all support and downloads button.
3. Follow the More tips link to see best practices for formulating your search query so you can receive more
relevant results and more quickly find the information you need.
