After 19 unplanned outages that totalled 2750 minutes in duration, a large wireless company asked us to help them to understand the causes. We found that 50% of the downtime was a result of two avoidable causes.

More proactive, maintenance strategy: About two-thirds of the avoidable downtime for this company could have been avoided by applying fixes and performing maintenance monthly instead of quarterly.
Better performance and capacity management: About one-third of the avoidable downtime for this company could have been avoided through more focus on managing their performance and capacity.
After taking the corrective actions, the company was able to reduce the outages and increase the availability for their customers.
