Since 1998 I am working for IBM and since then my workplace has been the IBM location in the beautiful city of Mainz.
These 18 years were very dynamic all the time! It was a continuous transformation!
When I started to work for IBM, Mainz was the European manufacturing location for Hard-Disk Drives, in particular for manufacturing write-read heads.
In fact this story started in in 1966 -- 50 years ago already!
This meant a large cleanroom, with leading edge thin film technologies (thin film deposition, lithography etching, lapping, ...).
Subsequently, a time with consulting in Engineering and Technology Services followed.
Finally IBM Mainz was transformed into the Europe, Middle East and Africa Storage Competence Center (ESCC) for IBM.
Since then, Mainz is the EMEA capital for IBM storage platforms (software and hardware), services and support.
Starting today, July 2016 the IBM ESCC and myself will move from Mainz to the Rhein-Main campus in Kelsterbach adjacent to Frankfurt/Main Airport.
This causes mixed feelings for me.
The time in Mainz was excellent, energetic and with many very good memories!
However the new Rhein-Main campus in Frankfurt is a very modern building with leading-edge IT facilities. The EMEA Storage Competence Center will be a major part of the new location and our job role, the excellent team and our very good relationship towards our Storage clients remains unchanged.
But in addition we are located now with a broad variety of IBMers of other non-storage business segments.
I am pretty sure that the new environment will be highly inspiring and finally lead to new innovations, not only for IBMs EMEA Storage clients.
So to conclude:
Goodbye Mainz - Welcome Frankfurt
